𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 "𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞𝐬" 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐒 𝐧𝐨𝐰?
The framers of the US Constitution were deeply concerned that the United States NEVER end up with a King. So they created a balance of powers ...
- an Executive Branch (the President & VP, Cabinet)
- a Legislative Branch (Senate, House of Representatives)
- and a Judicial Branch (Supreme Court, US Court of Appeals, US District Courts, Specialized Courts)
- ... so that no one person or group could take over and insert a King.
If the Legislative branch doesn't do its job (and neither side of the aisle has actually done its job for quite a while now), and the President will not follow the rulings of the Judicial Branch, then we no longer have a Democracy.
We have a King.
Only, I don't believe that a King is really the goal. I believe that Trump and his gang really want a CEO, and I think they want to run the US like a company.
A CEO is a lot like a King ... with a critical difference. A King only needs to listen to himself. A CEO only listens to himself ... and his investors. The investors play a huge role in deciding what the CEO will do.
But like Kings, companies don't share the wealth. They work for the financial betterment of the CEO and the investors. If a decision improves their ability to buy better cars, or private islands, then it's a good decision. The financial benefit of the employees is not part of the equation.
So - are we all just "employees" of the US now? Without a voice in how things are done? Without any control over whether or not we get a raise? Who decides how long we get to take for lunch, or how many hours we have to work? Do we have to work weekends? Can we express concerns, point out problems, contribute to improvements? How much ass do we have to kiss to survive?
The lack of control most employees have over their work life is already reason for tremendous life dissatisfaction and imbalance. But at least the average employee has control over their "not at work" time ... to the extent they can afford to do what they want to do when they're not at work.
If the US is a company, then there is no not-at-work-time any more, for any of us. If you don't own your own company already, you work for a boss at work, and your personal life also is controlled by a boss. Yay! You get two bosses. For those of us who own a company, we have a new boss.
All Hail the CEO.
